EYE EXAMINATION.
At Millicans Opticians, we lay a strong focus on clinical care and do a complete examination of your eyes both internally and externally, in addition to an eye test.
We invest in new technology on a regular basis in order to deliver the most up-to-date screening and investigative procedures, such as retinal imaging, visual field assessment, binocular vision evaluation, and glaucoma and cataract screening.
Free NHS Eye Examination Entitlement
You will be entitled to a free NHS sight test if you meet any of the following criteria:

Are aged 60 or over.

Are aged 40 or over and with a parent, sister, brother with Glaucoma.

Are registered severely sight-impaired/blind or sight-impaired/partially sighted.

Suffering from Diabetes.
-
Suffering from Glaucoma.
-
Considered to be at risk from Glaucoma as advised by an ophthalmologist

and an optical voucher for glasses:

If you are aged under 16.

Aged 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education.

Receiving income support or your partner (including civil partner)

Receive, or you're under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone receiving Income-based, Jobseeker’s Allowance (not contribution based)

If your partner (including civil partner) receive, or you're under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone receiving Pension Credit/Guarantee Credit

If your partner (including civil partner) receive, or you're under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone receiving Income based Employment and Support Allowance.

OCT SCANNER
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is a new and highly advanced screening system to check for potentially serious eye conditions. It is suitable for all ages and is totally painless.
We are proud of our state-of-the-art optical facilities and are always aiming to provide our patients with the most up-to-date technological breakthroughs in Optometry, and OCT is at the bleeding edge of diagnostic technology. When we send out your regular eye examination reminder or when you check in for your appointment, we will offer you the option of having an OCT scan.
What does OCT involve?
The OCT scan is a completely painless, non-contact procedure which is carried out by one of our Optometrists or Optical Assistants. The scan only takes a few minutes and involves staring for a few seconds in different directions whilst the OCT scans each of your eyes in turn. Once the scan is complete the Optometrist will show you the results and explain what the scan shows.
What does the OCT Scan show us?
The scan allows our Optometrist to clearly see any abnormalities or irregularities in the macula and enables the diagnosis of potentially serious conditions at a very early stage. Eye conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration along with diabetes can be picked up before other symptoms appear.
How often do I need a scan?
Similar to a normal eye examination, we would recommend that you have an OCT scan every 2 years or more regularly if your Optometrist advises. If you are a new patient to us, or have never had a scan, we would suggest that you have one at your eye examination appointment so we have a benchmark to work from for the future.
